Nixon goes to China

President elect Obama has promised entitlement reform:
"What we have done is kicked this can down the road. We are now at the end of the road and are not in a position to kick it any further," he said. "We have to signal seriousness in this by making sure some of the hard decisions are made under my watch, not someone else's."

  1. What's your point with the title? Nixon was infamous for red-baiting -- that's how he won a California Senate election. So it was a reversal of type for him to cozy up to a communist regime. Obama, by contrast, has never been a prominent opponent of entitlement reform. I hope you aren't trying to suggest that Democrats are the cause of the federal budget defecit -- it was Reagan and GW Bush who busted the budget, and Bill Clinton (and now Obama) who have to clean up afterwards.

  2. Other than Jim Cooper and a handful of Dem's, most of the pressure for reform comes from the Republicans.

I do find it odd that no one mentioned this during the campaign.
