What makes gasoline look cheap?

  1. More to the point, the average retail price for a gallon of gas this week is $3.44 (US all grades); while a gallon of coke is ~$3.57, a gallon of milk is ~$3.79, a gallon of Evian ~$6.40, and a gallon of RedBull ~$30.

I figure that the effort to get that gallon of gasoline is pretty high compared to Evian: oil rig, tanker, refinery, transportation, taxes, retail markup.

  2. I haven't seen anything that quantifies how much the price of gas has increased due to the depreciation of the dollar. A graph that shows prices per barrel in Euros might be interesting. I think there is general ignorance on this issue in the country.
